Movie poster

This is the final piece of my movie poster, The Heart. The genre of the movie is romantic comedy. The story takes place in high school. The plot is about a normal girl in 11th grade having a crush on the most popular guy who is a senior. He is handsome but very hard to approach and be friend with. Girls always write him love letters, but he never accepts them because of his horrible previous love experience. The main girl character, supported by her older sister, reforms herself and tries to win the guy's heart with a love letter. At first, the guy rejects to associate with the girl, but after seeing a girl's pure love, he opens his heart for a new love. At the end, they date in Valentine's day. The film is produced in Korea and played by Korean actors and actresses. The target audience is female teenagers, and that's the key of how I designed my movie poster. My poster is full with pastel and girly colors. Everything is very sweet and thoughtfully designed to attract girls, female audiences. I merged a love letter with an ordinary picture taken by me and used it as a background. I decided to use Kim Taeyong from girl's generation as a main image in my poster because she represents the liveliness of the character. I decided to do not show the guy's picture because I want it to be confidential. We all know that he is good looking, but I want the focus to be on the girl, but I included his name in the tag line. The font design is three dimensional through repeating put the same texts with different colors three times. It creates dept. The layout is in hierarchical order. The most important information is the biggest. However, I decided to make a movie company big because I want it to cover the edge of the picture.
I think I did a great job and I am satisfied with my work. I learned several photoshop techniques and how to use layer masks by watching YouTube. Although I use pixlr to create my poster, photoshop and pixlr are similar enough, so I can adapt what I learn in photoshop to pixlr. Next time if I were to do this project again, I had to make sure that I constantly save my work in pixlr because if I make a mistake and save it, I can't redo and correct it. At this point, I think I really like designing a movie poster and graphic design.

Concept of my CD and some tips C:

“The universe and themselves,” did not mean anything to me when I firstly got my album’s name. I was pretty baffled. The universe and themselves?? How did they correlate? After thinking about it for a period of time, I defined “universe” as the idealistic world since the cosmos are composed with colorful airy substance, planets, fiery stars, galaxies and comets. I think universe is one of the coolest places created naturally. Also I defined “themselves” as we all humans, common men. Humans and their world, if you were to put the two definitions together. That made more sense, at least for me. The concept of my album is individualism. Humans are unique. It is impossible to have everyone think the exact same way, agree with everything and have the same goals in their lives—even identical twins have different goal in their lives, although they are genetically like human cloning. If that happened, this world would be so hackneyed. Universe structure is very very complex. I compare an universe to one’s world and goals in their life, and the composition of the universe such as stars and galaxy are things that matter to them, challenges in life or some factors that make each of us different. Different people have different goals and idealistic world. Universe and themselves, SO HUMAN LIVES IN THEIR OWN UNIVERSE.

A helpful "tip" I learned from using the photo editing program, pixlr, is it's good to try experiencing a lot of filter as possible. You never know what is going to happen. You never know that the combination between this one and that one will work or not. Once you try it out, if it works, it is more like luck. I accidentally got a perfect combination for album cover when I experienced with so many filters randomly. Once you are pro, you do not have to depend on luck, but I think experimenting helps A LOT.

How does copyright laws affect me as a graphic designer?

Before we know what is an impact of copyright laws, we should know what a copyright is. Copyright is "a set of exclusive rights granted to the author or creator of an original work." Let me tie this with my childhood experience. I was one the most creative students in my third grade class. I remember that moment vividly in my art class when my teacher assigned a clock project. My task was to created a clock using a paper plate, sticks and crayons. I decided to create a clock that looked like a red apple and write numbers in roman numeral. I thought my clock was very unique and I would get an A in this project. However, when I looked to my classmate work who sat beside me. Her work was a copy version of mine. She created a red apple clock with a roman numeral numbers. I was really upset; therefore, I began to cry because my work was not unique anymore. I yelled at the stealer with anger, and she began to cry too. The art teacher came, but instead of blaming her for stealing my aesthetic idea, she blamed me for bullying my classmate. I was depressed because of her unfair judgement.            Therefore, I think if I were to be a graphic designer, i do not want anyone to steal my idea or photography. I think the laws will enforced people to follow that, and it will be easy for me to correct anyone who steals my idea without getting into any trouble. As internet is a medium between millions of millions internet users, my designs can be spread quickly all over the world. To ensure the uniqueness of my designs, I affirm that copyright is needed because it reserves our original works.

WALT DISNEY REVOLUTION

Walt Disney Picture has been my forever favorite logo ever since I was a kid. I clearly remembered the first time I watched Cinderella, and I was stunned by a fancy animated company’s logo with the sparkle curve around the castle before the movie started.
I did some research and found out an incredible story of my favorite logo. “Walt Disney” is named after the man who owned the company. He was a big fan of drawing as he grew up and decided to start their own company. This is the pioneer design of the company’s logo which was used from 1937 to 1985:

During my generation, the logo was changed which was the iconic of Disney themes park. From top the bottom a white light slowly formed the castle after which the words “Walt Disney Pictures” would appear after which a line is drawn behind the castle. I think this logo is really interesting. At least, it grabbed my attention at first sight when I was young.

From 1995-1995, there was a little change in the logo. It was 3D version of the previous logo due to the developed technology. The camera zooms out of the castle while the flags are moving

NOWADAYS, the logo is so realistic. It has the same composition as the past such as the castle in the middle, the flags and the text. However, the clouds, lake, and fireworks are really explicit and well-detail which make the whole logo look magical. It has the same character and theme, but in a better quality.

    WHY I  GRAPHIC DESIGN
Imagine every of your beauty product is a simple plain white bottle without a sticker or even a brand’s logo. Imagine how hackneyed it is. How can you distinct between two brands? How can you know which Lancôme and which one is Dior? Graphic design is created to make the difference because it helps us differentiate between the products by seeing the labels or distinctive logos. The label included the design or logo reveals the identity of the product. The color, type of fonts and artwork will give us an idea or impression about the product when we first see it. In my opinion, I really think graphic design has a huge impact on our life because it creates diversity in our life. Take iPhone for example, why do people own different iPhone cases? Why can’t everyone use the same pattern? Everyone purchase a case that they like, and the case present their style or identity more or less. Everyone is unique. People have different perspective, and graphic design is a helpful tool for them to express themselves creatively. Diversity makes me feel alive. I do not want to use the same iPhone case as anyone (except my boyfriend for our couple case.) SO YEAHHH… GRAPHIC DESIGN MAKES US UNIQUE.
